Asante Kotoko marked their 90th anniversary in style with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Premier League holders Bibiani Goldstars at the Bibiani Duns Park on Sunday, to lift the 2025 Champion of Champions crown.

The Porcupine Warriors started the game with purpose but were dealt an early setback when right-back prodigy Shayibu Abubakar limped off in the 12th minute, forcing coach Abdul Karim Zito to introduce new signing Musa Hamzata. The first half proved a physical battle, with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield exchanges.

Kotoko came back from the break with renewed intensity and gradually took control of proceedings. Their persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute when Francis Acquah’s perfectly struck free-kick was flicked across goal by Seth Kwadwo, allowing the towering defender to tap home the decisive goal.

Before the breakthrough, Coach Zito had reshuffled his side, replacing Emmanuel Antwi and Patrick Asiedu with Samuel Tenadu to add more energy to the midfield. The changes worked, as the two impacted the game there on.

Kotoko will now shift focus on intensifying preparations for the new season, which begins with a trip to Berekum Chelsea on September 14,2025.
