ASANTE KOTOKO SPORTING CLUB MARKS 91 YEARS

On the occasion of the 91st Anniversary of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, the Board of Directors on behalf of the sole shareholder and Life Patron, wishes to congratulate the entire fraternity of the Club to mark this historic occasion.

Formally founded on 31st August, 1935 in Kumasi with the blessing of His Majesty Otumfour Sir Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, then the Asantehene, the Porcupine Warriors have embodied the indomitable and warrior spirit of the great Asante Kingdom and its allies carrying on the legacy of strength, unity of purpose and invincibility.

As you are aware, our great Club has held a dominant position not only in the country's football history but across the continent with the record of 24 Ghana Premier League titles, 9 FA Trophies, 3 Super Cups, 16 SWAG Cups and 2 CAF Championships totalling over 50 cups.

As recent as 36 hours ago, it clinched its second victory in the history of Ghana's Democracy Cup Championships with the emphatic win of 4-1 on penalties against our arch rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak with whom we hope to engage in positive hostilities in the coming season.

We proudly reckon that to date, Asante Kotoko remains the only Ghanaian Club to have won Africa's premier club championships twice with our historic triumph in 1970 under the captainship of the great and incomparable Osei Kofi and in 1983 under the captainship of the 'Soccer Bob Marley', Ernest Papa Arko.

It is in recognition of these super achievements that the global authority on football history, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) crowned Asante Kotoko as the African Club of the 20th Century.

As we mark our anniversary today, we salute every player who has donned our enviable red jersey; every coach who has guided the team and every supporter who has waved the unflinching hope and support to the Club over the decades.

On this day, we celebrate our legends over the period who continue to inspire the new generation of our footballers - Osman Seidu Maada affectionately called "Baba Yara"

', Dogo Moro, Osei Kofi, Ibrahim Sunday,

Malik Jabir, Robert Mensah (Ghana's and Africa's greatest goalkeeper ever), Abdul Razak 'the Golden Boy' and Opoku Afriyie "Bayie" among others.

As we celebrate this momentous 91s birthday today, we are more resolved than ever to move into the future with greater fortitude, a sense of purpose and character building. We shall pursue development of modern infrastructure and adopt the state-of-the-art technology in football to compete at the highest levels and achieve more laurels for the Porcupine family.

On this occasion, we cannot but extend our deepest and sincerest gratitude to our sole shareholder and Life Patron, His Royal Majesty and the Kotokohene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II for being our pillar of unwavering hope for the past 27 years and for the distant future. Nana, wo nkwa so!
