Asante Kotoko secured a 2-1  victory over Young Apostles in their Premier League week seven encounter with a spirited second half performance.

The Warriors struggled to gain control in the opening half, with the away side coming close to scoring. However, Aziz Dari’s exceptional saves and mis-hits from former winger Richmond Opoku kept the half goalless.

Kotoko made two substitutions at halftime, introducing Hubert Gyau and Walid Fuseini for Isaac Opoku Agyemang and Ivorian winger Eric Gbetta. The Warriors were subsequently dealt another injury blow when Emmanuel Mamah limped off with an ankle discomfort.

The Warriors intensified their pressure in the second half, coming close on numerous occasions before scoring with Gyau’s tap-in, in the 70th minute after Patrick Asiedu’s explosive run down the left flank.

The Porcupines Warriors, poised to take the three points following their Swedru set-back, made their final two substitutions. Youth team forward Anthony Duah and 18-year-old right back, Emmanuel Sanja replaced Abu Adams and Inusah Adams.

The two combined with a clever combination of passes to set up Solomon Nsor-Asaah, who doubled the lead with a sublime finish in the 82nd minute.

Kotoko appeared to have kept another clean sheet, but a last-minute deflected free kick by Iddrisu Huzaif found the back of the net, giving the visitors a consolation.

The Warriors are now three points behind leaders Medeama SC.
