Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has included 16-year-old striker Isaka Abdul in the first-team squad for the first time as Asante Kotoko hosts Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The young forward has been in sensational form, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in the Ashanti Regional Division Three League. His impressive performances have drawn comparisons to former Kotoko striker Frank Mbella Etouga due to his all-round game, ability to drop deep, and instinctive finishing.
“I know how much this opportunity means to the young man,” said head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum in an interview with scasantekotoko.com.
“Isaka has proven to be a very talented footballer with the determination to succeed. Fortunately for him, as coaches, we are always ready to provide the right guidance to aid his development. But credit must go to the Youth Team coaches, who have done an incredible job. This opportunity is not to put pressure on him but to help him understand what it means to play for Kotoko.”
Isaka becomes the fifth youth player to be named in Ogum’s matchday squad this season, following Jordan Amissah, Vitus Avoka, Godfred Kodua, and Solomon Kwaku Sah.
The Porcupines, currently second in the league standings, trail Bibiani Goldstars on goal difference. However, Ogum and his squad will be aiming for all three points to reclaim the top spot and strengthen their title challenge.
Kickoff is at 3:00 PM.
